I spent a long time working on this set to get it just right. A pickup is much more that a given number of turns, ohms readings, magnets, etc. A scatter winding machine is basically an automated way to try to simulate the hand winding process. It's a great way to consistantly pump out lots of pickups that are pretty darn good, but nothing can achieve what the right set of hands with lots of experience can do.
I set out to make the perfect set to capture that sound you hear on the old R&B recordings and it took lots of work and thought. Just as I was working on this model I was contacted by a player named Jack Griffith who since then has become a very dear friend to me.
Jack. as a youngster played guitar with his father's Country Western group. They did many shows with Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. It's no wonder he has such great chops having been mentored by the great Don Rich. How many young kids can hang on the same stage as Don Rich! Don went to the store with Jack and his dad and picked out Jack's 60's Tele Custom. He used the guitar in later years with his band Novo Combo. The guitar was sold to a guy he was playing with named Andy Summers back in the late seventies, early eighties. Jack has always regretted selling that guitar.
Here's the real cool part...when I was in high school my brother and I loved The Police, Novo Combo, XTC etc. And my brother to this day always talks about the greatest band ever NOVO COMBO. I told jack about my brother and as a surprise, he sent an old Novo Combo press picture to my brother that says "Gerald-how come you can't be more like your brother?" How cool is that!!!
By the way, Jack named these pickups for me. Teleology is the study of everything having had a creator and a design.
As with all my pickups, they're gauranteed to be the best sounding pickup you've ever heard.
